The Loftness Legacy: 60 Years of Manufacturing Success

In 2016, Loftness Specialized Equipment marks 60 years of manufacturing robust, easy-to-use, and efficient equipment. From the small Midwestern town of Hector, Minnesota, this family-run business continues to push the limits in the fields of agriculture, vegetation management, grain bagging, and more.

The company began when Dick Loftness built a V-Type snow blower for his own use, which soon resulted in the formation of Loftness Manufacturing in 1956. In the six decades since then, the company has expanded both its footprint and manufactured offerings.

Today, Loftness’ lineup includes VMLogix vegetation management equipment, SnowLogix snow blower attachments, GrainLogix grain-bagging equipment, CropLogix crop residue equipment, and the recently launched FertiLogix line of fertilizer application and handling equipment. Loftness also produces specialized attachments, including the Kwik Pik rock picker, Cool Flow auxiliary hydraulic cooler, and Power Pak hydraulic power unit.

The resolve for manufacturing excellence that began with Dick Loftness, and was spurred by Marv Nelson, who purchased the company in 1979, continues to present day. Top-grade steel, welded with high-quality wire and argon gas, along with top-of-the-line components and pride of workmanship from its skilled workforce goes into every Loftness product. Rigorous testing ensures a problem-free machine, while a commitment to reliability and service has built strong customer relationships.

“We’ve made great strides in six decades, and we’re very proud of our company’s accomplishments and work ethic.”
– Gloria Nelson, President

Marv Nelson works a machinery show in 1975. He purchased Loftness Manufacturing four years later.

The first prototype crop shredder was developed in 1982, and line production began the following year.

Originally introduced as a skid steer attachment, the Kwik-Pik rock picker came out in a tractor model, too.

In 1990, Loftness entered the vegetation management business and soon began production on its full line of VMLogix products, including flail mowers.

All Loftness products have gone through rigorous testing beyond the norms of daily use, as evident by this snow blower taking on a pile of dirt.

The Loftness Manufacturing plant in Hector, Minnesota has grown considerably in 60 years to accommodate the growing product lines.

Skilled workers are key to the company’s success and reliability of each product.

Loftness continues to perfect each piece of equipment in response to changing end-user needs and increasing environmental demands.
