Available in widths of 15, 20 and 30 feet, the Windrower Side Discharge Multi-Crop Shredder houses two rotors and utilizes cupped knives. Side discharge allows you to double the size of your windrow by tightly placing two windrows next to each other in one round.This greatly increases the efficiency of your follow-up baling operation.
Available in widths of 15 feet and 20 feet, the Windrower Center Discharge Multi-Crop Shredder houses two rotors and utilizes cupped knives on the 20 foot model. The Windrow model makes use of the tunnels superior airflow characteristics and channels shredded residue at high speed to the center discharge chute.
Available in six widths from 12 feet to 22 feet, the Standard 12|22 Multi-Crop Shredder houses two rotors and utilizes up to 256 knives on the 22 foot model. The 12|22 provides you with extreme shredding performance and excellent maneuverability as a pull-type, semi-mounted or fully-mounted.
LOFTNESS CROP SHREDDER FEATURES AND COMPONENTS
MAIN BODY AND CHASSIS
The hood is engineered to enhance the dynamics of the air and residue flow. The design also allows for closer knife to wall tolerances. The result - the Loftness hood design produces extremely high levels of suction with less horsepower.
AN EXTREME-DUTY CLASS FRAME
All Loftness Shredder Chassis begin with full length steel beam tubing frame, 4 X 8 inches for the front beam and 4 X 4 inches for the rear beam. The beams are welded to the 1/4 inch steel hood and joined together at the 3/8 inch center plate.
A standard feature on all our crop shredders is the recutter bar. The edge of this full-length bar is positioned to force material between it and the knife-edge. A single recutter bar is an optimal configuration because multiple bars can disrupt airflow and suction, reduce the efficiency of the knives and increase power requirements.
Loftness uses the latest high speed balancing technology to balance every rotor before assembly. Each rotor and knife assembly is balanced at full operational speeds, and then fully speed-tested after assembly.
Loftness understands that not all crop residue shreds the same. That's why we offer three rotor rotation RPM speeds. Properly pairing RPM and knife type to your style of crop residue with desired shredder width and horsepower input ensures maximum performance.
STANDARD HIGH-RESIDUE CENTER CUT DESIGN
Exclusive to Loftness Multi-Crop Shredders is our unique Center-Cut knife configuration. Four extra sets of standard knives in the center of the shredder cut within 1/4 to 1/2 inch of center plate. This ensures complete shredding coverage from end to end.
This exclusive Loftness design feature eliminates side-to-side movement caused by lateral forces encountered during shredding. During operation, lateral stabilization along with superbly balanced rotation dynamics provides super-smooth operation and ensures that every bit of horsepower is directed to the knife tip.
REINFORCED ROTOR TUBE
There is no other shredder rotor design like it. We start with a 7 1/2 inch diameter by 1/4 inch thick high quality steel tube. Four full-length 2 X 5/8 inch steel reinforcement bars are welded to the tube and the end cap ring, creating an incredibly strong unit. The Loftness rotor design incorporates a lugless knife connection design by mounting the knives directly to the reinforcement bars, reducing the risk of damage from rocks and other foreign debris.
STANDARD HIGH RESIDUE
For use on corn, wheat, sorghum, grasses, etc. the Loftness Standard Side Slice Knife can run at 1450, 1700 and 2000 RPM. The Standard HR is heat-treated and reversible. At 1450 RPM this knife produces a moderate sized chop and will extend edge life along with reduced power requirements. At 1700 RPM and nominal power settings the Standard HR will produce a very fine chop. At 2000 RPM and the same nominal power settings it will produce an extremely fine chop, with a slightly accelerated edge wear. This higher speed is sometimes useful when shredding BT corn, grasses or stubble.
HARD-SURFACED HIGH RESIDUE
Similar to the Standard HR, the Hard Surface HR is reversible and heat-treated. Additionally, they have plasma hard surfacing applied to the bottom side giving them a self-sharpening effect.
The super wide face and edge (4 1/2 inches) along with its curved design help this knife produce an incredible amount of vacuum and enhanced flow through the shredder. Greater suction will allow the shredder to run much higher, thus avoiding hidden foreign objects. The rotor speed is limited to 1450 RPM. In addition to being heat-treated, they have plasma hard surfacing applied.
Cotton knives are very similar to the high-residue knives. They are heat-treated, side-slice knives and reversible for longer life. In addition to being heat-treated, they have plasma hard surfacing applied. The cotton knives have a 45 degree blade angle to reduce cotton lint build-up. The cotton knives are designed to run at a 2000 RPM rotor speed.
Combination knives are side-slice knives over the rows and cupped between. This arrangement gives you extra suction with longer life. The rotor speed is limited to 1400 RPM because of the cupped knives.
This type of knife is used to defoliate vegetable crops. There are three lengths of knives to follow ridges. Contour knives are available for 34, 36, 38, 40, 42 and 44 inch beds. This type of knife is not interchangeable with any other knives. The rotor speed is limited to 1450 RPM.
STANDARD FEATURES AND COMPONENTS
The rotors are mounted on heavy-duty 2-3/16", American-made ball bearings. Bearing bolts are torque set to proper specifications. A special lateral stabilization device is used to ensure that the bearings do not come loose.
Transfer of power from your PTO to the drive-line and rotors begins with the Loftness gearbox. Field-proven to be extremely reliable, and rated at 280 HP this gearbox is used on all Loftness Shredder systems.
LIFT ASSIST HYDRAULICS
Lift assist and transport lifting are accomplished with Ag-Pro grade hydraulic components, and depending on configuration are single acting or re-phasing.
Loftness paints their equipment with an incredibly durable 2-part industrial coating. This UV resistant coating creates a hard, high gloss finish that helps protects your investment. Paint options available at time of order are the standard Loftness charcoal and an optional green.
To transfer power from the line shaft to the rotor a banded wedge belt and spring-loaded push-type idler is used. The idler mechanism also increases the amount of wrap around each pulley. Advantages of this system and belt include: resistance to belt fly-off or twist, even distribution of shock and pulsation, stable under temperature changes, longer life. Depending on the model and your requirements, a four-groove or six-groove belt is used.
STEEL FLIPPER SHIELDS
One piece swinging steel flipper shields are positioned to protect the operator and equipment from flying objects.
LINE SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINTS
U-joints are used to couple the line shaft to the gearbox.(Most of the competition use a splined hub or chain coupler.)
LINE SHAFT BEARING
A 1-3/4" bearing is used to support the line shaft midway between the gearbox and the end plate with the exception of the 12' model.
MOUNT AND HITCH TYPES
Shredders using a pull-type mount trail more precisely then other types of shredders, making them an excellent choice for contour farming applications. Constant velocity PTO shafts are standard equipment and provide for smooth running operation and reduced turn radius without damaging knuckle clatter.
The standard pull-type hitch incorporates a 3rd link adjustment for leveling at any cutting height. Pull-type mount systems also include a heavy-duty jack stand as standard equipment. Large pull-types equipped with front and rear swivels can be easily transported with the addition of the transport hitch.
FLOATING PULL-TYPE MOUNT
Similar to the standard pull type with the difference being that it uses only two pivoting attachment points on the shredder. Floating pull-type mounts are only recommended with the use of front swivel wheels that support the weight of the shredder. Floating pull-type mounts come complete with a hand winch to raise for transport.
Semi-mount allows for zero turning radius without placing the entire weight of the shredder on the hitch and tractor. Depending on the size of your shredder, up to four swiveling lift assist wheels carry load during lift. Two are recommended on the 12 ft.-15 ft. models, three are recommended on the 18 ft. models, and four are recommended on the 20 ft.-30 ft. models.
The design of the Loftness Semi-Mount system offers the benefit of zero drive-line deflection, eliminating the need for a constant velocity PTO shaft.
Front gage wheels are available to help prevent scalping and when equipped with the transport hitch, can be used to end transport the 18 ft.-30 ft. models. Semi-mount requires category 2 or 3 tractors with a quick-hitch. Not available on Windrower Shredders.
The fully-mounted option is available on all vegetable shredders and standard shredders up to Model 315. Fully-mounted models offer the benefit of zero turn radius operation and no drive-line deflection but sometimes require a larger tractor because all the weight is lifted off the ground. Shredders using the fully-mounted hitch can be configured with rigid or swivel type rear wheels. Fully mounted systems require a category 2 or 3 Quick Hitch (not included).
WHEELS AND TRANSPORT
Non-swiveling, rigid-mounted wheels can be spaced to accommodate different row widths. Available on pull and fully-mounted models only.
REAR SWIVEL WHEELS
Swiveling lift assist wheels are used on the semi-mount model to eliminate load on the tractor during lift. The wheels freely swivel as they carry the weight of the shredder from the back.
FRONT GAGE WHEELS
Fully height adjustable, gauge wheels assist in setting cut and can be manually reset for end transport on semi-mount models.
FRONT SWIVEL WHEELS
On pull-type and semi- mounted models, two front swiveling wheels are configurable, along with hydraulic lift assist.
TRANSPORT WITH GAUGE AND SWIVEL WHEELS
Semi-mounted shredders equipped with gage wheels can be positioned for transport by adding a transport hitch. One gage wheel is turned to transport position, and the opposite lift-assist wheel turns by itself and is locked into transport position.
HYDRAULIC TRANSPORT LIFT
Available on pull and fully-mounted models with rigid wheels and non-floating hitch. Loftness offers an optional hydraulic lift for elevating tires off the ground during transport. A transport hitch is included.
Available with the transport wheels system, the optional factory-installed end transport hitch folds up during field operations, and comes with a folding adjustable jack stand. Transport hitch is standard on the 30 foot only.
TRANSPORTING WITH SIX SWIVEL WHEELS
20-30 foot models are equipped with six swivel wheels - four in the back and two in the front - and with the addition of the transport hitch can easily be transported.
